Larimar is also known as “Stefilia's stone” and is a rare blue variety of a silicate mineral known as Pectolite. Its coloration varies from white, light-blue, green blue to deep blue. Pectolite is found in many locations around the world but Larimar is found only in the Dominican Republic and has a unique volcanic blue coloration, the result of copper substitution for calcium. Long exposure of this stone into direct sunlight will cause the blue colors to fade. The gorgeous blue colors in Larimar resemble that of a tropical ocean with peaceful waves, reminding us to breath and not rush through life.
