Violet Agate, also referred to as Violet Flame Agate, is a variety of a common rock formation, consisting of chalcedony and quartz as the primary components. Agate is known distinctly as a banded fibrous chalcedony. It is often found as layers lining Geodes. Many names have been applied to the varieties of agate that are found throughout the world. While many of the names reflect the source of the crystal, other names are descriptive of their color and pattern. While Violet Agate does come in shades of violet, reflective of its name, it also is mixed in with many other beautiful colors such as, blue, red, yellow, gray, and white. Many people are confused by the differences between Agate and Jasper, the simple explanation is that Agate is translucent and Jasper is opaque.
