This beautiful Dendritic a Agate bowl with blue Laced Agate comes from Madagascar. It weighs 1 lbs. 1 oz.
Dendritic Agate is a variety of Chalcedony, a mineral in the quartz family, with inclusions of iron or manganese that look like plant or tree life. This iron and manganese is known as dendrite, which is Greek for tree-like. Dendritic Agate is not technically considered an agate, due to the fact that it does not have much banding in the stone, but it is still classified in that group. This form of Agate appears in white, gray, colorless, blue, and yellow while the dendrite is black or brown. Another type of not so common Dendritic Agate is known as Tree Agate which is a white agate with beautiful green Dendrite. Dendritic Agate dates back to the time of the Neolithic people as it has been discovered in artifacts around that time. Agate was widely used in the stone cutting and polishing industry in Germany from the 15th to the 19th century, and still exists today. The plant-like Dendrite in Dendritic Agate reminds us that we all have roots and we must continue to grow in this ever changing world.
